At about 1hr 40 mins from I-Drive, it's a fair drive over to Clearwater, but, if you love the ocean, this is a lovely place to head to.
Some parts of the journey across the vast sea-bound bridges are absolutely breathtaking and are worth the visit in itself!

  • A relaxed alternative to the busy activities in Central Florida!

Madeira Beach offers tourists a great beach stop amongst some great shops, restaurants and bars.
John's Pass is a rustic kind of shopping square, filled with some excellent small privately operated stores.  Merchandise tends to range from low cost jewelry to high end fashion and beach wear.
Restaurants include Bubba Gump's and Hooter's plus many more independent dining options.
What makes Madeira such a hot place, is the great beach, supported by dozens of Water Tours, Dolphin Tours, Paragliding and Jet Ski Rental kiosks.
If it sounds a bit kind of 'tacky' then we've not done this justice, it's very quaint and nicely developed since the completion of the impressive 'lift bridge' across the inlet.
There are sunbed rentals on the beach, but visitors are best taking their own food and drinks to the beach as it's a long walk to any vendors from the shoreline.

The beach itself is long and west facing, making this a great place for evening sunsets and all day bathing.
The water is as safe as you could get.  No sharp currents typically, very gentle waves (not useful to surfers), there's a swim zone to keep watercraft away, and the shelf is very very gradual, allowing swimmers to wade out for hundreds of yards in safety.
